Myths about Leather

Over the course of millennia, leather has been one of the most useful materials that we’ve ever processed. Leather has been used extensively in several industries especially the apparel sector due to its suppleness as well as its durability. Leather comes in many forms at many different price points but due to its worldwide prevalence, it has become surrounded by all kinds of myths. In this article, we’re going to dispel some of the myths that surround leather and create a clean slate.

If you have some white leather shoes with you, you may be wondering “how on earth am I supposed to clean them? Is there some kind of special solution, a special cloth to be used?” Well to have all your questions answered do take a look into how to clean white shoes for some fantastic information. You can also purchase some fantastic leather products from them, guaranteed to leave both you and your wallet happy.

Without any further ado, let’s get into some of the myths that surround leather, the first myth is that the price that you pay is the one thing that determines the durability of leather. Common sense dictates that you get what you pay for. With leather, this may not always be true. There are a lot of things that determine the durability of leather, such as the animal that it comes from, the tanning process, the design and stitching, the finish of the leather etc. The more care that goes into each individual step, the more expensive it’s going to be. However, depending on how you choose to buy and from where you choose to buy your leather products, they can be extremely cheap. Another myth that we hear all the time is that leather is hard to clean. This one is just straight up false. Unless you consider brushing it off once in a while with a damp cloth once in a while hard work. You will also need to clean the leather with a conditioner once in a while (the best frequency is what they mention on the packaging) and you’re done. It’s honestly no harder than doing your everyday laundry, you just can’t pop it in the washing machine is all. Another misconception that we hear all the time is that leather can’t be in contact with water. This is mostly false. Unless contact with water means putting the leather in a washing machine for a full spin cycle, leather getting into contact with water is fin, it will easily protect the wearer from the rain without being damaged fatally. If the leather gets wet, all you need to remember is to fully dry it out before putting it away in storage (otherwise it may mildew)

Another myth is that leather doesn’t last. We truly don’t understand how this myth came about because leather is actually one of the hardiest materials in existence. It is durable and can be used for years and years as long as you exercise the proper care.
